While final examination results of TDC courses conducted by the Manipur University were declared in August this year, the process of admission into various courses of master level of the university for the academic session, 2001-02 has not yet been completed, delaying fixation of a proper academic calendar.
According to reliable sources, some departments have not yet conducted the entrance test for admission into their master level courses.
The total intake capacity for the two year master's degree for the academic session 2001-02 has been fixed as 828 seats for altogether 21 departments of Manipur University, excluding the Manipur Institute of Management Studies.
For the 828 seats, the University has sold a total number of 1964 application forms at the rate of Rs 200 each.
The last date of submission of the forms had been fixed on September 15, 2001, though it was again re-fixed till November 9, 2001.According to reliable sources, some departments namely political science and biochemistry have still not completed the admission process, and consequently the academic been able to set a date for launch of the new academic session.
The department of Political Science has the maximum enrolment capacity compared to the rest of the departments.
It has a total of 80 seats.
Speaking to the IFF, the deputy registrar, academic, Y Robindro said the academic section has no right to force the pace of the admission process.
The concerned department will take responsibility for holding the admission test.
If the concerned department does not submit the final list of candidates who have passed the written test to the MU academic session, the academic MU academic calendar delayed section cannot admit the students.
He said the academic session for 2001-02 for the Masters courses is likely to begin in the last week of 2002.However it is not clear-cut as the admission process is still incomplete for some departments.
In the meantime, today at Manipur University administration block, a few students of Manipuri department who passed the entrance test came to urge the MU authorities to re-fix the last date of admission which was fixed as yesterday (December 18).They complained that when the students came for admission, the MU was closed because of the bandh.
